Lessons in NYC or Online

Private piano lessons for beginners, intermediate, or advanced students of all ages!

Offerings/Prices

In-person instruction in Hudson Heights, NYC, or online lessons are available. I specialize in injury-preventive piano technique and believe that playing the piano should be fun, enriching, and safe for the body!

For those interested in re-training their piano technique and/or recovering from an injury, I also offer lessons specifically in the Lister-Sink Method.

I have experience teaching all ages, from young children to adults hoping to return to the instrument!

  • I consider myself extremely fortunate to be studying with Julia. In addition to being an incredible musician, she immediately identifies any problems I am experiencing (often when I am not even conscious of the problem), provides constructive practice approaches in simple terms to overcome the issues, and this is all done while taking on ever more challenging pieces and having fun throughout the process. My progress has been excellent. I highly recommend Julia for any interested in studying piano and doing so effectively, efficiently, and with joy!

  • I wish I had restarted piano lesson with a teacher like Julia years ago. For the past two years I have learned so much from her that I didn't understand about physical techniques and mental practice, rotation and relaxation. Fortunately, she is very patient, and constructive.

The Lister-Sink Method

“The Lister-Sink Method is a sequenced, step-by-step program for training the motor coordinations of piano technique from simplest to complex with application to musical requirements. It is an interdisciplinary method.” The technical model draws on knowledge from the pillars below, in addition to the Alexander Technique.

Biomechanics

We focus on efficient muscle use, optimal skeletal alignment, and the habituation of releasing unnecessary muscle tension

Anatomy

Knowing about the body and what joints, muscles, and bones are involved in playing the piano can transform the way you think about technique.

Neuroscience

The power of mental practice can change the way you practice!

Sports and Arts Medicine

Musicians use their bodies to execute their craft just as much as athletes. Many aspects of sports medicine, including the study of rest, apply to musicians.
